High Wide & Handsome Loudon Wainwright III and Dick Connette began working on The Charlie Poole Project in December of 2007. Their first recording session was in May of 2008. Filmmaker Michael Grenadier has been in on it from the very start, documenting studio work and live performance, conducting interviews, and, most recently, travelling with Loudon and Dick to Spray, North Carolina and visiting Charlie Poole's haunts and stomping grounds.
